Indiana law requires an excavator's notice to reach the Indiana Underground Plant Protection Service, reached by dialing 811, at least two full working days and no more than ten calendar days before work starts.1 The only construction contractors licensed by the state are plumbers, and licensing for other contractors is left to cities and counties.2 Construction activity that disturbs one acre or more of land falls under IDEM's Construction Stormwater General Permit.3
